About Hypochlorous Acid

Studies have shown Hypochlorous Acid kills bacteria and may reduce inflammation giving patients relief from symptoms commonly associated with MGD, Blepharitis, and Dry Eye.

Zenoptiq’s advanced stabilized formulation, in conjunction with its 18-month shelf life, provides an optimized potency of HOCl (0.01% HOCl Spray, 0.0085% HOCl Gel).

Hypochlorous Acid is an oxidant that replicates the body’s white blood cells

Hypochlorous Acid is an oxidant, which in our body is produced by white blood cells called neutrophils. It is used to control the body’s response to injury and protect it against infection. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that is one of the body’s main defenses against microbial invasion.[2]

In humans, roughly 100 billion neutrophils enter and leave circulating blood every day. They mediate the earliest immune responses to infection, play a pivotal role in the resolution of microbial infections, and constitute the dominant leukocyte population in the circulation.[3]

After a pathogen has breached the epithelial (skin) barriers, neutrophils are the first immune cells that are rapidly recruited from the bloodstream to sites of infection.[3]

Activated neutrophils then produce HOCl to help oxidize the pathogens that may cause inflammation and infection.[4]

Lab studies have further demonstrated that topical HOCl is also effective in oxidizing and killing microorganisms such as bacteria on the skin.[4]

HYPOCHLOROUS ACID- KILLS BACTERIA, NEUTRALIZES TOXINS AND REDUCES INFLAMMATION

After a pathogen breaches the epithelial (skin) barriers, neutrophils are the first innate immune cells that are rapidly recruited from the bloodstream to sites of infection. The pathogens entry and replication in host tissues leads to the release of products from outside of the organism, such as formyl peptides, lipoproteins, or peptidoglycan. [6] Activated neutrophils then produce HOCl to help oxidize the pathogens that may cause inflammation and infection.[4]

HOCl is highly active against all bacterial, viral, and fungal human pathogens and a small amount of HOCl can kill spore-forming and non-spore bacteria in a short time period. HOCl is also especially effective at degrading biofilm (which is similar to a force field that helps protect bacteria) to reduce bacterial growth on the skin.[4]

Imbalance of microorganisms within the biofilm can lead to inflammation and potential for infection. HOCl exhibits anti-inflammatory activity by neutralizing inflammatory mediators in the body and those exuded from pathogens.[4]

Zenoptiq’s advanced stabilized formulation provides an optimized potency of HOCl (0.01% HOCl Spray, 0.0085% HOCl Gel) throughout the entire shelf life of the product, making other commercially available products containing higher concentrations of HOCl nonessential.
